Concrete Requests

Why is it taking so long to get my sidewalk/apron/curb repaired?

Weather conditions, previous requests, and financial support all delay requests to get sidewalk, aprons, and curbing repaired.

Our repair list has now grown to almost 2,000. Along with sidewalk repairs we have a large amount of curb and apron repair requests.

Firstly, concrete work is not completed during the winter months. The amount of time the Highway Department has available to complete repair requests is dependant upon the weather.

Secondly, the office lacks proper funding for the amount of requests received. Historically, the Smithtown Parks Department has been responsible for the repair of sidewalks, but in 2010, the town shifted that responsibility to the Highway Department. Unfortunately, no additional money was given from the town to help cover the costs of these repairs. I do want you to know that I have requested additional funds to help with the existing repair requests that were given to the Highway Department. The funding request also is to help with the numerous concrete requests that overwhelmed our office after the damage from Hurricane Sandy. This lack of funding from the town has unfortunately prohibited and delayed many repair requests, but rest assured that I will work as effectively as possible with these depleted funds to get the jobs done- including yours.
